I Demons & Wizards sono un side-project nato nel 2000 con l'uscita dell'omonimo album. In questo gruppo infatti ci sono influenze 'Iced Earth' e 'Blind Guardian' (Hansi Kursch, Bobby Jarzombek) rispettivamente cantante e batterista. Ma c'è anche Jon Schaffer il chitarrista degli Iced.
Questo album si snoda in 10 tracce che sono leggermente ripetitive. Ma ora passiamo ad analizzare le tracce. Questo album (secondo per i Demon & Wizards) si apre con Crimson King accompagnata da un grande riff con un sottofondo di cori che poi lasciano spazio alla voce di Hansi con Jarzombek che si scatena con la sua doppia cassa (la batteria si sente troppo in questo album) per poi arrivare ad una parte centrale molto più calma.
Si va avanti con Beneath these waves canzone che comincia con il solito riff potente e si chiude in maniera calma. Si passa a Terror train (riff+batteria a palletta) e si continua cosi per quattro minuti con Hansi che non sfigura mai. E si procede con Seize the day semiballad con un buon assolo di Schaffer. In successione arriva The gunslinger dove riemerge il senso di patriottismo degli Iced Earth. Si continua con Love's tragedy asunder che al contrario della seconda traccia comincia in manera calma per poi sfociare in grandi riff facendo scivolare i 5 minuti e trenta di questa canzone.
Così si arriva alla migliore canzone dell'album (secondo me) perchè si distoglie dalle altre che comunque sono un pò ripetitive, stò parlando della ballad Wicked witch davvero un'ottima canzone. Si giunge ad Dorian canzone più lunga del disco con i suoi 6 minuti e 36 secondi. La traccia già sapete come fa (riff+riff) e la solita batteria di Bobby che crepita come una pistola. Infine si arriva alle ultime due traccie, Down where i am e Immigrant song canzone corta che riesce comunque nel suo intento cioè quello di chiudere in bellezza questo disco.
L'album non è un capolavoro ma comunque si tratta di un side-project e quindi c'è tempo per migliorare. Tecnicamente sono tutti e tre validissimi ma ci si poteva aspettare di più da in disco che è uscito 5 anni dopo il loro primo disco. E un consiglio la batteria sovrasta addirittura la chitarra e inoltre la voce viene sempre distorta da quegli effetti che usava anche Mttew Barlow degli 'Iced Earth'. Comunque anche con la sua ripetitività è un buon album.
Speriamo che il loro prossimo album sarà un piccolo capolavoro.

"Crimson King", un brano davvero epico e cattivo, probabilmente il migliore dell’intero lavoro.
La scelta di puntare su atmosfere malinconiche e toccanti si rileva coraggiosa, soprattutto per un genere come il power metal.
