Frammentre sto scrivendo questa recensione i Brian Jonestown Massacre sono in tour negli Stati Uniti e non nascondo che non mi dispiacerebbe essere là, così come non mi dispiacerebbe possedere l'intera discografia dei nostri (16 album senza contare singoli ep e cocci sparsi) ma va beh, non si può avere tutto dalla vita (dice un vecchio adagio).
Però intanto mi godo questo ...And This Is Our Music (in risposta al This Is Our Music dei Galaxie 500), l'inizio è affidato al folk narcolettico di Starcleaner e Here to Go, invece When Jokers Attack è elettrica con un bel lavoro di chitarre, mi ricorda Elliott Smith, merita di essere citata anche Prozac Vs Heroin se non altro per il titolo, Geezer scritta per Will Sergeant e Mac è caratterizzata da distorsioni di sottofondo, in Maryanne è nuovamente il folk a fare capolino.
Con You Look Great When I'm Fucked Up si respirano atmosfere western e spaziali nello stesso tempo, l'album poi prosegue alternando brani di matrice folk o alla psichedelia dei '60 oppure aggiungendo sperimentazioni vedi il tribalismo elettronico di Prozac Vs. Heroin Revisited.

You Look Great When I’m Fucked Up, forse uno dei pezzi migliori del gruppo, epica quanto può esserlo un Thelma & Louise con le musiche di Morricone.
