Durante il “The Joshua Tree Tour” (Marzo – Dicembre 1987) gli U2 avevano abbozzato alcuni brani. Tornati a casa si rimisero al lavoro per trasformare le idee melodiche in idee musicali. Il risultato è l’ottimo “Rattle & Hum”, pubblicato nel 1988, apprezzato dal pubblico (sette milioni di copie) ma stroncat…

Uno fra i più controversi album degli U2, Rattle & Hum esce nell’ottobre del 1988. Album sicuramente significativo per la storia del gruppo di Dublino, rappresenta una concreta e definitiva rottura con il periodo new wave degli U2.

Spin-off post-Joshua Tree, più che un disco è il loro ultimo testamento prima delle derive Berlinesi-elettroniche degli anni successivi. "All I Want is You" e "Angel of Harlem" sarebbero potute rientrare benissimo nell'albero di Giosuè.
